Great Lakes Limestone Trade Down 13.8 Percent in April
Cleveland—Shipments of limestone on the Great Lakes totaled 2,126,522 net tons in April, a decrease of nearly 14 percent compared to a year ago. Shipments trailed the month’s 5-year average by 28.4 percent
Shipments from U.S. quarries fell 14 percent compared to a year ago and are 26.3 percent off April’s 5-year average. Canadian quarries were marginally below last April’s total, but are nearly 41 percent behind the month’s 5-year average.
The April totals basically reflect limestone’s year-to-date performance. Only two cargos – 50,184 tons – were loaded in March.
