Great Lakes Iron Ore Trade Down 28 Percent in January
Cleveland – Significant ice formations and insufficient icebreaking resources in the U.S. and Canada produced a 28-percent decrease in iron ore shipments on the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway in January. The decrease was entirely at U.S. ports. Loadings fell to 1.5 milion tons, a decrease of 32.5 percent. Shipments from a Canadian port in the Seaway increased by one boatload.
