Lakes Limestone Trade Up in July
CLEVELAND — Shipments of limestone on the Great Lakes totaled 3.97 million tons in July, an increase of 4.6 percent compared to a year ago. The trade was above to the month’s 5-year average by 2.4 percent.
Loadings from U.S. quarries totaled 3 million tons, an increase of 2.8 percent compared to 2021. Shipments from Canadian quarries increased by 10.9 percent to 931,669 tons.
Year-to-date the Lakes limestone trade stands at 13.7 million tons, a decrease of less than 1 percent compared to a year ago. Loadings from Michigan and Ohio quarries total 10.7 million tons, an increase of 2 percent. Shipments from Ontario quarries total nearly 3 million tons, a decrease of 8.7 percent compared to 2021.
