Limestone Trade Up in June

CLEVELAND — Shipments of limestone on the Great Lakes totaled 3.8 million tons in June, a slight increase from a year ago.  This June’s loadings were also above the month’s 5-year average by 2.2 percent.

Loadings out of U.S. quarries totaled nearly 3 million tons, an increase of 11.5 percent compared to a year ago.  Shipments from Canadian quarries totaled 829,618 tons, a decrease of 25.2 percent.

Year-to-date the Lakes limestone trade stands at nearly 9.7 million tons, a decrease of 2.5 percent compared to 2021.  Loadings from Michigan and Ohio quarries increased 1.7 percent from a year ago.  Shipments from Ontario quarries total 2.1 million tons, a decrease of 15.4 percent.
