Lakes/Seaway Ore Trade More Than Doubles in March
CLEVELAND – Shipments of iron ore on the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Seaway totaled 1,682,497 tons in March, more than double their volume of a year ago. Shipments also topped the month’s 5-year average by 100,000 tons.
Shipments from U.S. ports totaled 1,460,933 tons in March, an increase of 175 percent compared to a year ago. Loadings at Canadian terminals dipped by 42,000 tons to 221,564 tons.
