Iron Ore Trade Up 27.8 Percent in May

CLEVELAND – Shipments of iron ore from U.S. Great Lakes ports totaled 5.6 million tons in May, an increase of 27.8 percent compared to a year ago and 4.8 percent above the month’s 5-year average.

Year-to-date the iron ore trade stands at 14.1 million tons, an increase of 42.6 percent compared to the same point in 2022.  Iron ore shipments were also 6 percent above their 5-year average for five months of the year.
